Our Board and Volunteers

The board of the organization is all-volunteer, and board members spend many hours managing the association, promoting the rinks, and prepping and maintaining the rinks. Community members volunteer their time for larger projects, like setting up the boards that go around the large rink for hockey.

President, Board Member – Ryan Blechta

Ryan has lived in Big Sky since 2005 and was a founding member of BSSHA. He is currently the Golf Course Superintendent for Spanish Peaks Mountain Club and a paid on-call member of the Big Sky Fire Department. He is involved in all aspects of the BSSHA including overseeing operation of the rink and its programs, fundraising, building projects, planning for the future, and organization of volunteers.

Vice President of Development, Board Member – Gary Hermann

Gary is a practicing attorney with over 40 years of experience, including ten years in Montana as a partner with the Axilon Law Group PLLC. He coached and played hockey for many years and has lived in Big Sky since 2005. He was an original founder and board member of the BSSHA and heads up the BSSHA’s fundraising efforts. He also works with Ryan Blechta on planning issues and with Chris Grace on marketing and public relations matters.

Secretary, Board Member – Natalie Osborne

Natalie Osborne migrated to Big Sky from the great state of Alaska. She owns a website development company, WONDERBUILD.com, that focuses on custom WordPress websites. Natalie is an avid hockey fan, and has played in various leagues and tournaments most of her adult life. She believes a community ice rink is a fundamental part of any mountain town, providing a fun and healthy sport for people of all ages to engage in.  Hockey just makes everything better.

Treasurer, Board Member – Derek Christiansen

Derek grew up in Maple Grove, Minnesota playing hockey on the many outdoor rinks around Minneapolis. He participated in, as well as, organized the Dirt Ball Hockey League also know as the DBHL in high school while attending Osseo Senior High. He later attended college in Fargo, North Dakota where he continued playing on the outdoor rinks and operated the Zamboni for the West Fargo Veterans Memorial Rink. He moved permanently to Big Sky in 2014 and continues to support his love of hockey through the BSSHA.

Director of Public Relations, Board Member – Chris Grace

Chris has been a resident of Big Sky since 2010. He is an Instructional Designer and eLearning developer with Edutech Performance Solutions, LLC. He is involved in a variety of functions for the BSSHA, including marketing, public relations, and the BSSHA’s golf tournament. He was a major contributor to our new website.

Director of Rink Operations, Board Member – Steve Ditullio

 

Director of Programming, Board Member – Scott Leuzinger

Scott is a retired plumber, and is still affectionately referred to as “Scott the Plumber”. He grew up in Minnesota and has played hockey for 50 years. He has coached hockey in Minnesota, North Carolina, and Montana. Scott has organized and operated the BSSHA’s youth hockey and skating programs for several years. He has lived in Big Sky for 15 years.

Coach – Youth Services, Board Member – Steve Rapp

Steve is the Site Superintendent for Big Sky Build and has been a part of the Big Sky community for 12 years. He has been playing hockey for 35 years and has coached Termites through Bantams for 9 years.  He has also helped with fundraising activities and was instrumental in getting the BSSHA’s Zamboni building constructed.

Board Member – Jeff Trulen

 

Board Member,  Emeritus – Marty Pavelich

Marty has been a resident of Big Sky for many years. He is the unsung hero of the early 1950’s powerhouse Detroit Red Wings. His outstanding ability, statistical performance, and character ultimately helped the Red Wings to achieve four Stanley Cup victories during his time on the team. He provides advice to our current leadership.
